Mp3 player and computer question?
Ok 2 of my kids got mp3 players for xmas. I know how to upload music on it, but I have a question about the "safely remove hardware" icon. Once I put music on one mp3, i have to double click an icon on my toolbar that says safely remove hardware(its a little green arrow). I need to do this before pulling the mp3 out of my computer usb port. The problem is , that icon disappears and i need to use it again to upload music on to the 2nd mp3 player, I want to know how to find this on my computer without having to restart my computer to get the icon back on my toolbar. Its says mass storage device in a box after i click on the green arrow icon. What do i click on my computer files to find this??? I have windows XP. Thanks
Mp3 player and computer question????
I don't think it's essential to use the little green arrow as Windows doesn't do write caching on removeable devices. Put simply, when you when you upload to the mp3 player, the file is copied straight over to it, so long as you don't unplug it in the middle of a transfer, you should be okay. If you do accidentally unplug it mid-transfer, the mp3 on the player may end up being corrupted, also, it may affect other files that are already on the device, so be careful.
Reply:Okay, here's a more accurate answer: If the green arrow thing doesn't pop up, you can do the following:
*Go to My Computer
*Find the 'Removable Disk' that corresponds to your mp3 player.
*Right click the icon.
*Select 'Eject' Report It
Reply:i've never actually used the safely remove hardware button, and everything has been fine. When you remove the mp3 player, then put the second mp3 player in, the computer should automatically recognize a new hardware being put in, and the information shouly automatically pop up. check your settings on your mp3 software to see if the settings for automatic pop up are off...
Reply:If you are using windows Xp, then everytime you connect an external hadrware (MP3 players, Mobile phone, cameras...etc) using USB Cable, your computer will recosnise it and will start interface.
Safely remove icon appears only when a external hardware is connected and you click disconnect safely eveytime before pulling out the cable.
so, do not worry just plug in the cable and the logo will appear automatically.
Reply:the icon that you're talking about in the system tray should simply re-appear when you plugin the second mp3 player - if it does not then it may be that the second mp3 player needs drivers or software that hasn't been installed beforehand and so it doesn't know what the mp3 player is.
the usb port icon simply lets you know when a usb device is currently plugged in and the option to 'safely remove' it is to avoid corrupting the file system on the mp3 player by closing off the player within windows before you physically unplug it from the machine - this limits the potential for damage if the mp3 player is unplugged while it is being written to by windows.
Reply:You should click the icon every time you want to unplug a device! When you plug the next one in, the icon will come back on the screen! Not using the unplug icon may damage your player!
Reply:Windows xp doesn't require that you use the "safely remove icon". Just make sure your device is not sending or receiving data and un-plug it. then plug in the second one.
